District Nurses make every effort to get to their patients and are sometimes looked upon as an 'emergency service' if no one else is available.
One DN says "I generally don't mind the snow, but if the driving is too dangerous, we simply can't get to some of the rural visits. Sometime, we end up with only one of the team in town who does the visits because she can walk to many of them. She's a good sport- even goes out on her days off when the rest of us are stuck!
We do find it pretty amusing though when people ring up to say- 'can you come visit me- I can't get to the surgery because of the snow!' ... as though we aren't also snowed in...!"
